Latex is a natural product found beneath the bark of mature rubber trees. The milky white liquid that seeps from the rubber tree is collected and then processed to create either natural Talalay latex foam (softer) or natural Dunlop latex foam (firmer).

Natural latex foam has a number of unique properties that make it ideal for use in mattress construction, including durability, breathability, resilience, and a willingness to conform to the body's contours. Plus, natural latex is a great choice in terms of having firmer, more "bouncy" mattress support. Latex beds are springy and come with a buoyant feeling, thus naturally supporting your posture.

Memory foam mattresses, on the other hand, practically ‘sink’ your body into itself and may give you aches and pains later on due to reduced support. Need some level of ‘softness’ but want to sleep on a ‘firm’ mattress? An all-latex mattress solves this exact problem. It’s somewhat soft, like foam-based mattresses, but since it has a natural buoyant feeling, it provides just the right amount of firmness.

Latex mattresses are processed in two different ways – Dunlop or Talalay. Talalay latex is fluffy throughout and typically a bit softer and less dense than Dunlop latex. As a result, Talalay latex mattresses offer more cushioning and pressure relief.

We didn't want to sacrifice support but instead wanted to aim for a balance between comfort and support. Thus, we chose Dunlop latex for our mattress.

We produce latex to the highest possible organic standard (≥95%), and it has been certified by the Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS), ensuring the healthiest possible bedroom environment for you and your family!

Turmerry mattresses do not require a box spring, but a mattress foundation or bed base is recommended. A good bed frame can provide the entire mattress with great support as well as protection from impurities on the ground. Additionally, we recommend natural bedding products like an organic cotton mattress cover, mattress protector, duvet cover, comforter, blanket throw, etc. Good bedding accessories and bed frames can make for a more comfortable and good night's sleep!

No, Turmerry doesn't provide free white glove delivery. However, we do offer free shipping across the contiguous USA. Setting up our mattresses is easy, too! They're shipped in four (or five) compact boxes that you can easily carry to your bedroom, open up, and combine the natural and organic materials within.

• Twin Latex Mattress

A twin mattress is the smallest standard mattress size in the US and measures 38" by 75". This type of mattress is the best option for growing children or young adults.

The recommended room size for a queen-size latex mattress is 10 feet by 10 feet.

• King Latex Mattress

Measuring 76” by 80”, sleeping on a king-size mattress is a luxurious experience. They are the widest standard mattress size available and are best suited for couples who prefer extra space to sprawl out or for parents who co-sleep with their children.

• Organic Latex

  Organic latex is natural latex that comes with an organic seal of approval. Latex mattresses that are organic contain ≥95% organic latex, the highest possible standard. It is the cleanest that you can buy for your health, the fairest for those working in the rubber industry, and the safest for Mother Earth.

• Synthetic Latex

  Synthetic latex is the cheapest type of latex and is usually constructed from Styrene-Butadiene Rubber. Mattresses made of synthetic latex involve the use of a variety of synthetic materials that are toxic to human health. Also, they have a much shorter lifespan and durability than the natural and organic ones.

• Blended Latex

  A combination of natural latex and synthetic additives, blended latex mattresses usually contain 15 to 30 percent natural latex, with the rest being synthetic.

  The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) stands as the foremost standard in textile processing, placing restrictions on the use of toxic dyes, bleaches, and other chemicals throughout the textile production process. The latex and organic wool layers within all-natural latex mattresses can often be found encased by a GOTS-certified organic cotton cover for a pure green mattress experience. Even the natural fire barrier found within an all-natural latex mattress can be GOTS-certified organic wool instead of fire-retardant chemicals.

• OEKO-TEX

  

  OEKO-TEX is a global standard for environmentally friendly brands, retailers, and manufacturers in the textile and leather industry. It has a list of over one hundred substances, including chemicals and metals. OEKO-TEX sets limits for the emission of harmful substances such as formaldehyde and other Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), which are linked to ozone smog, respiratory illnesses, and memory impairment.

  LGA Quality certification is a mark of excellence that assures a product will meet or exceed the longevity claims made by the manufacturer. The certification process is rigorous and involves multiple tests that assess a product's durability, performance, and safety.

• eco-INSTITUT

  

  Eco-INSTITUT certification is a voluntary, independent certification process that assesses products and materials for their compliance with international standards for VOC emissions. The certification is based on rigorous testing according to strict emission criteria set by eco-INSTITUT. This certification provides reassurance to consumers that a product is safe and environmentally friendly, and it can give manufacturers a competitive advantage in the marketplace.

  All of these certifications, including some others like the GREENGUARD GOLD certification and CertiPUR-US certification (for memory foam), stand for customer confidence and high product safety standards before, during, and after the mattress manufacturing process. Therefore, when you are buying a mattress, consider one that has at least one of these five certifications. This helps you confirm that the mattress materials are exactly what the manufacturer says they are.

Latex and wool may have a faint, natural scent, but it's typically mild and disappears within hours. For latex, you may smell a slight vanilla-like odor, while for wool, you may smell an earthy or sheep-like odor. Sensitive individuals might find the odor stronger, but for most, it's a subtle and fleeting experience. We recommend airing out the mattress for quicker dissipation of the odor.
