Our zafu and zabuton are filled with buckwheat hulls grown in the USA, in removable covers of heavy-duty organic cotton that's undyed and unbleached. The zafu raises your hips, and the larger zabuton cushions your knees and ankles. Buy them as a set or on their own.
Zafu
The round sitting cushion
15 inches across and about 5 inches tall, with pleated sides. It lifts your hips so your knees can rest lower and your back stays upright.
Zabuton
The flat mat underneath
A larger, flat cushion that goes under the zafu, so your knees and ankles rest on something soft instead of the floor.

Buckwheat hulls shift to fit you, then hold their shape, with no break-in period. Each cushion has a zipper so you can add or remove hulls.

Grown in the USA
Buckwheat hull fill
Hulls are the outer shells of buckwheat seeds, left over when the grain is milled. Ours are sustainably grown in the USA. They feel a little like sitting on sand: firm, but they move to fit you.
Organic cotton
Undyed organic cotton cover
Heavy-duty organic cotton that's undyed and unbleached, made in India. The covers are removable and washable. Cushions are assembled in the USA.

Pro tip: keep your cushions dry and out of damp rooms, and air the hulls in the sun every few months to keep them fresh.
Wash the cover
Unzip it and pour the hulls into a clean container. Turning the cover inside out helps get them all. Machine wash the cover cold on a gentle cycle with mild detergent, then hang it to dry. Don't tumble dry.
Air out the hulls
Never wash the hulls. Spread them out in the sun or a breezy spot for a few hours to freshen them up.
Refill and adjust
Once the cover is completely dry, pour the hulls back in and adjust the amount for your feel. Repeat every few months.
Keep it dry
Moisture breaks hulls down and can cause mold. When the hulls lose their spring, replace them with fresh hulls.

What are a zafu and a zabuton?

Shipping is free on all orders across the contiguous USA. For Alaska, Hawaii and other US territories, we offer FedEx and USPS rates.
Pillows ship from Charlotte, NC, so East Coast orders usually arrive in 1 to 3 days and West Coast orders in 5 to 7. Outside the US? Add items to your cart to see if your product ships to your country.
Warranty and returns
Your cushion comes with a 1-year limited warranty for the original buyer. If it has a defect, we'll replace it at our discretion. It doesn't cover burns, cuts, stains, spills, discoloration, smoke or other odors, dampness or mold, comfort preference, or normal wear and tear.
