Turmerry Mattresses Use Natural & Organic Materials

We're committed to ensuring you sleep on the best organic mattress. To do so, we use high-quality natural and organic materials from around the globe.

        GOLS-Certified Organic Dunlop Latex

GOLS-Certified Organic Dunlop Latex - Confirms Natural Latex - GOLS Certified Latex Avoids Any Synthetic Fillers

Dunlop latex is made by whipping natural rubber sap into a foam, pouring it into a mold, and baking it in one continuous process. Because the material settles during baking, the bottom comes out denser than the top, which makes it well-suited for the base layers of a mattress. It's also extremely durable.

Compared to memory foam, Dunlop latex responds to pressure instantly rather than slowly sinking in, and the pin-core holes molded throughout the material keep air circulating continuously, so it sleeps cooler without any special cooling additives. Latex is also open-celled, making it inherently breathable.

        FSC-Certified Organic Talalay Latex

FSC-Certified Organic Talalay Latex - Higher Standards for Minimal Hazardous Materials - Avoids Many Toxic Chemicals

Talalay goes through a more involved process. After the rubber is poured into the mold, the mold is sealed, and a vacuum is applied to distribute the material evenly before it's flash-frozen and then baked. That extra step produces a lighter, more consistent cell structure throughout. The result is a softer feel compared to Dunlop.

Where Dunlop works best as a support layer, Talalay is used as a comfort layer on top, offering a more cushioning feel while still maintaining the bounce and breathability that latex is known for.

        Natural New Zealand Wool

Natural New Zealand Wool - Zero to Low Chemical Emissions - Avoids Heat Retention for Hot Sleepers

The wool in our mattresses is ethically sourced from New Zealand and excels at two things. First, it regulates temperature by wicking moisture away from the body in warmer conditions and trapping warm air in cooler ones, so it adjusts passively to the season.

Second, it acts as a natural fire barrier. Wool chars rather than burns, allowing our mattresses to meet fire safety requirements without the chemical flame retardants common in conventional mattresses.

        Organic Cotton Cover

Organic Cotton Cover - Ensures Cotton is Organic - Provides Just the Right Amount of Softness - Doesn't Run Hot

The cover is made from soft, unbleached, pesticide-free organic cotton in a stretch-knit construction. The knit allows the fabric to move with the mattress, which helps with both everyday comfort and use on an adjustable base. It's also highly breathable, so it doesn't restrict airflow through the mattress.

        Pocketed Coils (for Hybrids)

Pocketed Coils - Great for Side Sleepers, Stomach Sleepers - Multiple Firmness Options in Customizable Mattress

The coils in our hybrid mattresses are made from over 90% recycled steel, with each coil individually wrapped in its own fabric pocket. Because they aren't interconnected like traditional innersprings, they compress independently under weight, providing targeted support. This reduces motion transfer, too.

The space between pocketed coils allows for easy airflow, ensuring a cooler bed. You also get the natural bounce and edge support of a coil system, without the rigidity of an innerspring.

The Best Organic Certificates to Look for In a Mattress

        Certification Material What It Guarantee
GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) Raw Latex Guarantees the mattress contains ≥95% certified organic raw rubber. Tracks path from farm to factory.
GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) Cotton & Wool The gold standard for fabrics. Ensures harvested fibers are organic and processed without toxic dyes/chemicals.
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Entire Finished Product Tests every component (including threads and zippers) for harmful levels of toxic substances and heavy metals.
eco-INSTITUT / Greenguard Gold Chemical Emissions Measures indoor air quality impact. Guarantees ultra-low VOC emissions for sensitive individuals (children/elderly).

        Certified Organic Mattress Buyer’s Checklist

☐ Does the brand disclose every material used in the mattress?

        • Full material transparency is a basic expectation from any organic brand. If the construction details are vague, that's worth questioning.

☐ Does the brand have GOTS and/or GOLS certifications?

        • Any brand can claim organic/natural. GOTS and GOLS are third-party certifications that verify it, from the farm the materials came from to the finished product.

☐ Are the certifications publicly verifiable?

        • Look for a certification number or a direct link to the certifying body's database. Legitimate certifications like GOLS and GOTS can be looked up and confirmed independently.

☐ Is the fire barrier made of natural wool or safe silica, rather than toxic chemicals?

        • Most conventional mattresses use chemical flame retardants or fiberglass to meet fire safety standards. Natural wool does the same job without any harmful ingredients.

☐ Is there a clear, risk-free sleep trial (90-120 nights) to test the bed at home?

        • A mattress feels different after a few days of real sleep than it does in a showroom. A proper trial gives you enough time to know if it's right for you.

☐ Does it come with a robust warranty (10-20 years) reflecting high-quality materials?

        • A long warranty is a sign that the brand stands behind the durability of its materials. Short warranties on organic mattresses are a red flag.

☐ Is the baseline firmness customizable (e.g., layered setups or flippable options)?

        • Organic materials like latex come in different firmness levels. Plus, being able to adjust the layers means you're not stuck with a feel that doesn't work for you.
