MLK Day Sale - FAQs

1. Are there sales on MLK Day every year?

Yes. MLK Day falls on a long weekend, which makes it a popular time for retailers to roll out January discounts, especially on home items and bedding.

2. Is MLK Day a good time to buy a mattress?

It can be, yes. Many brands use MLK Day to kick off early-year sales, so you’ll be able to find solid discounts without having to wait months.

3. What is the best month to buy mattresses on sale?

May is usually the best month. New mattress models come out around spring, so retailers discount older inventory in March, April, and May to clear space.

4. How do MLK Day mattress deals compare to bigger sale events?

MLK Day deals are smaller than a lot of Black Friday and Memorial Day deals, but they’re still a good opportunity if you need a mattress sooner rather than later.

A Look Into: MLK Day

More than 2000 buses, 21 chartered trains, 10 chartered airplanes, and an untold number of cars descended upon Washington on August 28, 1963. Police forces in Washington, D.C., including reserve officers and firefighters, mobilized to full capacity outside. There were 5900 officers on duty that day.

When dawn broke, the full splendor of The Great March on Washington would be witnessed on the streets of Washington, D.C.

The Washington Monument served as the starting point of the march, which was intended to continue to the Lincoln Memorial. At the monument, the speakers and musicians greeted the protesters. With a total population estimated at around 250,000, advocacy for the rights of African Americans was finally gaining national and international recognition.

A boisterously captivating speech would be delivered to everyone present there that day. As he stood atop the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, surrounded by his brothers and sister, the last speaker of the day would cry out, "I Have a Dream." A speech that has since become a powerful symbol of the struggle against racism. An iconic moment in American history and one of the most impactful speeches of all time, delivered by none other than the civil rights movement leader, Martin Luther King Jr.

Who was Martin Luther King Jr.?

Martin Luther King Jr. was a leader and activist in the Civil Rights Movement (1954-1968). Through nonviolence and civil disobedience, King fought for the civil rights of people of color in the US. He also took part in and led demonstrations in support of other civil rights, such as the right to vote, labor rights, and the elimination of racial segregation.

What Is MLK Day?

MLK Day is a federal holiday that honors the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. It's observed annually on the third Monday of January.
