    What Is Graphite Latex?

Graphite latex is essentially natural latex with a percentage of graphite-based pigment added. This enhances certain functional properties like cooling, responsiveness, durability, and odor resistance. So, you get all the properties of regular natural latex, but now improved for better sleep. Plus, our topper looks really cool in black!

We back our quality with industry-leading certifications from GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) and OEKO-TEX, which rigorously test the latex foam to ensure it is as eco-friendly and high-performing as it is comfortable.

Pro Tip: To keep our topper in top shape, we recommend getting a mattress topper cover along with it. The cover is useful in warding off airborne impurities, making topper maintenance much easier.

    Graphite-Infused Mattress Topper: Care Instructions

Pro-Tip: Turmerry mattress toppers are much easier to maintain if protected with an outer cover. The topper covers we offer cannot be machine-washed. As such, we recommend using washable covers, such as fitted sheets or waterproof mattress protectors, to make maintenance easier for you.

Try these (they fit best!) -

Spot-clean in case of spillage - If you spill anything on the mattress topper, do not wash it in a machine, as it isn't machine washable. All you have to do is obtain a cloth/sponge and spot-clean the liquid-stained area with water and mild detergent.

Avoid long-term exposure to sunlight/heat - Our mattress toppers should not be exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods. Exposure to severe heat above 85 degrees Fahrenheit should also be avoided. As our toppers are made from latex, excessive sunlight or heat can degrade the material, reducing the topper's lifespan.

Handle with care - If proper care isn't practiced when handling our toppers, they may rip or tear. Be gentle when removing them from the packaging; place them carefully on your mattress. They may also absorb dust/dirt easily if left unprotected (without a cover). Always make sure they're protected by a cover.

Clean regularly - Vacuum the topper's surface every month or so. Avoid eating and drinking on it, and spot-clean spills/stains immediately. All of these steps can lead to a long-lasting mattress topper.

7 Zone Cooling Mattress Topper FAQS:

A latex mattress topper is a bedding accessory (about 2-4 inches thick) that's placed on top of your current mattress to improve its support/comfort. If your mattress is too firm, a topper adds cushioning. If your old mattress is too soft, a topper can restore the lost support. Basically, it's an easy way to improve your bed without buying a whole new mattress.

Natural latex comes from the sap of rubber trees, which is processed into a springy foam. Our graphite topper uses natural latex infused with graphite-based pigment, and that one addition makes quite a difference.

    • Graphite is a highly conductive material. It pulls heat away from your body faster than standard latex, keeping the bed even cooler.
    • Graphite increases the natural elasticity of the latex by 42%, meaning it bounces back quicker when you shift positions.
    • Graphite reinforces the latex structure for better long-term durability and uses its natural carbon properties to neutralize odors

So instead of just getting regular latex, you're getting a version that sleeps cooler, responds faster, lasts longer, and stays fresher.

Yes. Graphite conducts heat away from your body faster than standard latex, and the perforated surface of our topper keeps air flowing freely.

Graphite latex sleeps cooler than both regular latex and memory foam.

No. The graphite pigment is infused into the latex, not a surface coating, so it won't stain your bedding in any way.

The graphite latex mattress topper can last 5+ years with good care. Unlike memory foam toppers that get permanent dips and worn spots over time, latex bounces back to its original shape, allowing it to support you year after year.

To get the best possible lifespan for your topper, we recommend using a mattress protector, rotating it occasionally, airing it out once in a while, and keeping it clean.

Both use graphite to improve cooling, but that's pretty much where the similarity ends. The material beneath the graphite is what really determines how your topper performs, and most people find natural latex to be the better choice.

Memory foam has some well-known problems. It traps body heat, which makes you sleep hot. It can have a chemical smell when new and may release VOCs (volatile organic compounds). Over time, it also develops permanent dips.

Latex doesn't have these issues. It stays cool because air flows through it easily. It's made from natural materials, so there's no chemical smell or harmful gases. And it keeps its support for years.

Both materials contour to your body and relieve pressure points. But latex does this while still being responsive - when you move, it bounces back quickly instead of leaving you stuck in a slow-sinking feeling.

Latex toppers last 5 years or more, while memory foam toppers often start sagging after just 2-3 years. So, even though latex costs more upfront, it provides better value over time.

No, our graphite latex mattress topper is certified safe by GOLS and OEKO-TEX.

GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) certifies that the latex is organically grown and processed without harmful substances. It requires the product to contain at least 95% raw natural rubber latex.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 goes a step further, testing the finished product for over 100 harmful chemicals, including pesticides, heavy metals, formaldehyde, etc.

Natural latex, especially when it's organically sourced like ours, is one of the cleanest sleep materials available. It comes from rubber tree sap and doesn't off-gas any VOCs like memory foam.

As for the graphite, it's a naturally occurring form of carbon - the same material found in pencils. When infused into latex at the manufacturing level, it becomes a stable part of the foam structure. It doesn't flake off, doesn't release particles into the air, and doesn't react with your skin.

No. Mattress toppers do not require flame retardants. As such, Turmerry mattress toppers don't use any flame retardants. But graphite is inherently fire-retardant, so it does provide a safer sleep environment.

Our latex mattresses do, however, use a layer of natural wool as a flame retardant, which is required by federal safety standards. The mattresses are tested to make sure they meet all fire safety requirements.

Since our toppers don't have flame retardants and our mattresses use only natural wool for fire safety, they work well together without adding any synthetic substances to your sleep setup.

No. Because the graphite is infused into the latex at a molecular level during manufacturing, it becomes a permanent part of the foam structure. It won't flake off, nor degrade with use. The cooling properties stay consistent for the entire lifespan of the topper.

No. The graphite is added as a pigment at relatively low concentrations. It's enough to meaningfully improve the topper's performance, but not enough to significantly affect its weight.

For light cleaning: If your graphite latex topper just needs freshening up, vacuum it with a brush attachment to get rid of dust/debris. Then sprinkle baking soda all over it and let it sit for a few hours. The baking soda will soak up any odors. Vacuum it up when you're done. Do this monthly to keep your topper fresh.

For spills/stains: Mix a little mild soap (like dish soap or baby shampoo) with warm water. Use a clean cloth or soft sponge to gently clean the stain. Don't scrub hard or get the graphite latex too wet. After cleaning, use a damp cloth with plain water to remove any leftover soap. Then let it air dry completely.

What to avoid: Don't use bleach, ammonia, or other harsh cleaners - they can damage the graphite latex. Never put your topper in the washing machine or dryer, either. Graphite latex isn't machine wash-friendly and can tear or lose its shape.

Drying: Always air-dry your topper in a room with good air circulation, but keep it away from direct sunlight and heat. Even though it can handle oxidation better, the sun makes graphite latex brittle over time. Lay it flat and make sure both sides are completely dry before putting it back on your bed.

Before you store your graphite latex mattress topper:

    • Make sure it is clean, aired out, and free of moisture and smell.
    • Once it's completely dry and odor-free, roll it up. A rolled-up mattress topper is easier to move and saves some space in storage.
    • Place your rolled-up topper in a protective cover or a cloth bag, something that can protect it from impurities while it's packed away.

You can also use the original packaging your topper came with as a storage bag. If you do not have the original packaging, use a vacuum-sealed storage bag instead. Always ensure that your storage bag is clean of any impurities and liquids so that your topper can remain damage-free within it.

Yes, you can. Multiple 3-inch graphite latex mattress toppers, with varying firmness, layered one on top of another (bottom layer, middle layer, top layer), can be used to create your own DIY latex mattress.

Make sure to add a layer of natural wool around the mattress topper layers, as it acts as a natural fire retardant. Once the wool layer is in place, encase the whole thing in a Zippered Mattress Cover (preferably a GOTS-certified organic cotton cover), and voilà! Your very own graphite latex mattress is ready.

Copper and gel are the most common alternatives used in cooling memory foam toppers. Gel beads absorb heat initially but can become saturated and stop working effectively as the night goes on. Copper is a good conductor, but it's typically used in memory foam, which still has the underlying heat-retention problem.

Graphite conducts heat continuously and consistently, and in latex (which is already breathable), it doesn't have to overcome a heat-trapping base material. It's a more passive, reliable cooling mechanism that works all night, not just at the start.

Graphite doesn't significantly change the firmness of the latex on its own. Firmness is primarily determined by the density and formulation of the latex itself, which is why we offer multiple firmness options. What graphite does change is how the latex performs.

Graphite infusion adds complexity and cost to the manufacturing process. It requires precise formulation to ensure the graphite is evenly distributed throughout the latex. Most manufacturers stick with standard latex because it's simpler (and cheaper) to produce.
